Summer 2024

Fourth Annual Conference in the Environmental Philosophy Series

From July 26th to 28th, Philosophy in the Wild hosted the fourth annual conference of its Environmental Philosophy series!

Philosophers camped, dodged poison ivy, rode bikes, established eternal truths about the universe, and most importantly invented S'moreos! Colton Point State Park--Pennsylvania's "Grand Canyon"-- provided the (ahem) perfect philosophical environment.

The list of speakers and presentations is here!

A good time was had by all. We rescued a cute caterpillar, only to find it was the hickory tussock caterpillar, which is both poisonous and invasive. What should we have done?

Summer 2023

Third Annual Conference in the Environmental Philosophy Series

From July 14th to 16th, Philosophy in the Wild hosted the third annual conference of its Environmental Philosophy series!

Participants camped, got a masterclass in tarp set-up, dipped in the creek (very philosophically), and did environmental philosophy at Poe Paddy State Park in central Pennsylvania during the outdoor, technology-free event.

The list of speakers and presentations is here!

A special thank you goes to Blake Francis, who rescued our tarp efforts, and Lisa Martinez for co-hosting the conference. We also warmly thank all who participated!

Summer 2022

Second Annual Conference in the Environmental Philosophy Series

From June 17th to 19h, Philosophy in the Wild hosted the second annual conference of its Environmental Philosophy series!

Participants camped, played with worms (while considering their material relations to the world), and did environmental philosophy at Ridley Creek State Park in eastern Pennsylvania during the outdoor, technology-free event.

The list of speakers and presentations is here.

We owe a special thank you to our keynote speaker, Romy Opperman (The New School for Social Research). We also warmly thank all who participated, especially across philosophical traditions.
